Canadian Turning Points Series

This 12 × 18 inch full-colour poster examines the Komagata Maru incident, a defining moment in Canadian immigration history. In 1914, the ship Komagata Maru arrived in Vancouver carrying passengers from India, most of them Sikh men seeking to immigrate to Canada.

Due to restrictive immigration laws, the passengers were denied entry and forced to remain aboard the ship for two months before being turned away.

The incident exposed discriminatory immigration policies and became a powerful symbol of the challenges faced by early South Asian communities in Canada.

Ideal for:

• Canadian immigration history education
• South Asian Heritage Month displays
• library cultural history exhibits
• classroom discussions on citizenship and belonging
